As many of you know, Meg has been a proud member of the WPJA (Wedding Photojournalist Association) since 2005. Throughout the years, she’s built a nice collection of award-winning images, and received numerous accolades for her work.

She started things off with a 10th place award in the ceremony category way back in 2005. In 2006, she collected her Gold Medallion, and became a member of an elite group of award-winning photographers within the organization. Some photographers that have been members for years are still hoping for a Gold Medallion!

We say all of this not to reminisce…but more to set the stage for our next announcement…drum roll please!

Meg Baisden | WPJA 2008 Quarter 2 | #1 Overall Photographer

Winning first overall is BIG! It took a combination of four winning images in one contest! This included a first place image in the emotion category, a second place image in the ceremony category, and two additional eighth place images! All said, this created a combined score high enough to put Meg first in the entire organization! If you’d like to see the set of images that resulted in this prestigious honor, then visit our Florida page on the WPJA site (just click on the little Gold Medallion):

So what does this mean…well for starters, it carries the prize of pride. The WPJA consists of photographers from all 50 states, and from countries from all across the globe. The membership numbers into the hundreds! But more than that — it gives us the top spot in Florida, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and Bermuda. Oh yeah…and it puts us on the map! :-) So look out world!

Speaking of the Caribbean…we often get asked if we are willing to travel for wedding day coverage. The answer is a resounding yes! We do travel…all over the United States, into the Caribbean, and even Europe. Basically…wherever the wedding takes us!

Earlier this year, we were commissioned to photograph a wedding in St. Thomas (USVI). Take a peek!

And right at the end of last year, we travelled to the Bahamas for a wedding at the Atlantis Resort. You can see that one on the blog:

As we enter the new 2009 season, we will have some new & exciting destinations to announce. So stay tuned & thanks for reading!

PS — we have received numerous complaints about the fact that we haven’t been blogging! :-) Settle down people! The good times will roll again…we haven’t disappeared, or forgotten about you…we’re just waiting on some design updates for the blog. When those are done, we’ll be rolling out the posts like Florida State rolled over Western Carolina. Stay tuned!

Sheri + John

What:

Wedding

When:

November 3, 2007

Where:

New Orleans, LA

This week, we’ll be debuting a wedding that we photographed last November in New Orleans. Meg has decided that this one will be the second wedding in our [100:1 series], where we showcase 100 images from 1 event.

The goal with our [100:1 series] is to demonstrate the depth of the coverage that our clients receive…not just a handful of good shots…but literally hundreds of interesting, compelling, & beautiful images all from ONE wedding.

We’re going to change it up a bit this time by adding comments directly from our clients themselves! We’ve previewed the images with them, and asked them to share their thoughts & ideas about the images, and tell us what makes the choices and moments special for them.

So stay tuned as we reveal Sheri + John’s wedding from November ‘07 in NOLA!

We got this sweet note from Lauren (of recent Lauren & MacKay blog fame!) the other day:

Just wanted to say hello to both of you. I saw the blog today (I’ve been stalking it for a while now ) and I love that you have chosen us for the 100:1. I love reading all of the comments that you guys make. It’s so nice to see how you thought everything turned out! I know we LOVE them and I am glad you guys love them as well. Thanks so much!!!!!!

Lauren

We’ve had great response from some of our other blogstalkers, as well - so we’ll definitely continue this theme periodically along the way. Chances are we’ll be less wordy as time goes by, just because saying the same stuff over and over gets monotonous - for you and me! - but we’ll definitely keep the image-heavy posts!

It’s a new concept for us - so we’d love to hear even more of your feedback.

Who: Pensacola Magazine’s Annual Wedding Issue 2007
What: Fashion Spread Photoshoot
When: January 9, 2007
Where: Pensacola Beach

We were honored to be asked again this year to shoot Pensacola Magazine’s fashion spread for their annual wedding issue. We were out at a very windy and COLD Pensacola Beach this year, which proved to be a rather challenging shooting environment! Here are just a few shots that DIDN’T make this year’s issue:

Charles tells me we still have a small stack of their 2007 Wedding Issue (printed in February) lying about - so if you missed it and would still like to get a copy - drop us a line and we’ll send you one of ours!

Even though the Oscar’s are a blip in the rearview mirror, it’s still award season here at Meg Baisden Photography! And we’ve added some more hardware to our shelf! This time we are combining our winnings…first from the Fall 2006 WPJA Contest, and also from the Winter 2006 [AG]WPJA Contest. And the winner is…

Kristen & Mark — Meg captured this stunning image during Kristen & Mark’s ceremony at Saint Rita’s Catholic Church in Santa Rosa Beach, FL. What an amazing venue! This image captured 18th place in the [Creative Use of Mirrors] category of the WPJA contest. Let’s take a moment to reflect on this image…

Laura & Josh — every bride dreams of that “perfect” exit with petals flying everywhere! Thank goodness Meg was at Laura & Josh’s wedding to make this one everything Laura imagined! This image captured 13th place in the [Departure] category of the WPJA contest…it’s like “The Departed”…just different! :-)

Jessica & Joey — to me, this image represents the essence of childhood. The image means so much to me because of what it stands for, and the pureness that it conveys. I remember messing up my dress clothes as a child, and that feeling of mom being mad…but not really. This just embodies all of that so well. Amazing. No kidding, it is probably my favorite image that Meg has ever taken at a wedding. This image placed 17th in the [Reception] category of the [AG]WPJA contest.

All images are being featured on the WPJA & [AG]WPJA websites as follows:

Thanks to our awesome couples for letting us document their wedding day!
